Two men, both in their 20s, have drowned at Bloubergstrand on Saturday afternoon.
According to an eyewitness, the men had been drinking and one of them went into the sea. When his brother didn’t see him come up, three men entered the surf to help him when one of them was pulled under. He also drowned.
The mother of one of the victims was so distraught she tried to drown herself, rescue personnel had to pull her back from the surf.
A rescue swimmer found one of the men, but attempts to resuscitate him failed. He was declared dead on the scene.
The search is continuing for the body of the second man.

Concerned
I am concerned that this is the only article available on this tragic event.
Does anybody know whether the second body has been found yet?
Were the swimmers from South Africa, or not?
If the beach is so dangerous, why aren't there more warnings on display?
Alcohol on beaches
It is tragic - but the majority of drownings I have heard about or witnessed on our beaches have involved alcohol consumption. By no means am I trying to lessen the tragedy, but people need to be responsible and obey the law. Laws are in place to protect us.
Body still not found
Police have confirmed that the body of the second victim has not been found.
Warning signs should be compulsory
This specific area has claimed one life too many. This the 2nd drowning in the exact same area in the last 2 months and there will be a 3rd (if not more) when the other body is found. Warning signs should be COMPULSORY - especially when the beach is fairly deceiving on a hot summer's day. The council needs to invest in some signs immediately.
Feedback. I am informed
Feedback.
I am informed parts of the body were found today near Cafe Blouberg.
Would not like to be witness to something like this.
Saw something
This morning while I was admiring the view on the last day of my holiday at Blouberg Heights, I saw an odd looking white object that had washed up on the beach. Made me think of skeletons but it was too far away to really see anything so I didn't pay too much attention. A couple hours later there were 2 police vans and several police officers on the beach next to the object. At 10:30 when I had packed my car and was driving out of the gate, a police van marked Forensic Pathology turned into the road leading to the beach. Odd that I can't find any news articles on this :/
