Six people have been arrested after attempting to the KFC outlet on the beach front in Table View on Tuesday.

Captain Frederick van Wyk said the men were arrested after a tip-off and subsequent undercover operation by the specialised crime unit, the Hawks, and police at 10pm on Monday.

Van Wyk said four men had been seen getting out of a silver Toyota Corolla in front of the outlet and then entering the eatery.

"The members noticed the staff being pointed at with a firearm and money being demanded. A struggle ensued between staff and the robbers, but the robbers fled the premises without the money."

Outside the outlet police arrested two of the men while the other two fled the scene in a grey Toyota Corolla.

"Police gave chase and fired several shots at the vehicle when it came to a halt."

He said the two men were arrested in Milnerton and later, after being pointed out by the staff, another two were taken into custody.

During the arrests police also seized a 9mm Star pistol. No one was injured during the incident and the men - between the ages of 21 and 30 - were expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
